Update on the New Exhibit Building

By Geri Cicchetti

After 10 months of construction, the new exhibit building has been completed.

The two-story structure, located behind the Wood-Morrison House, offers a total of 6,000 sq.ft. of additional exhibit space.

The next phase of the project will be the installation of exhibits on the first floor.  The plan is for a small introductory exhibit which will be an orientation on the Erie Region, a larger exhibit on the early 20th century Cultural and Economic Boom in Erie, and finally an exhibit of national significance.

This national exhibit has been acquired for the Hagen History Center.  More than 10 years ago, it was on display at another museum but has not been on displayed since.   This was a very well received exhibit when displayed in the past, and we expect it to be a major tourist attraction for the Hagen History Center and for Erie, PA.

The first floor is scheduled to be completed in May 2020. The Making History Gala will kick off the opening of the exhibit followed a week later by an open house for the public.

Guests will enter the new exhibit building through the Gift Shop at the Carriage House.  Next time you’re on the Hagen History Center Campus, check out the new building.
